This past January the New Haven Metropolitan Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women invited Doulas4CT to join their 7th Annual Community Health Fair at the Cardinal Shehan Center in Bridgeport, CT. The fair offers health & wellness educational workshops, health screenings and COVID-19 & Flu boosters to the community. Doulas4CT was able to interact with the community of Bridgeport, share the importance of Doulas and how the coalition is working to create equitable access to Doula care services.

Hartford Hospital Women's Health Community Event

During Black Maternal Health Week Hartford Hospital Women's Health, hosted a viewing of the documentary "Aftershock" and a conversation with maternal health experts from Hartford Healthcare at the conclusion of the documentary. "Aftershock" follows the partners of two black women who died preventable deaths due to pregnancy related complications. In addition to the documentary, there were many resources, educational opportunities and giveaways. Due to the emotional intensity of the documentary Doulas4CT attended the showing to support anyone who may have become overwhelmed during the viewing, and bring awareness to the potential impact Doulas can have on improving Black Maternal Health outcomes in Connecticut.

The women of the New Haven Metropolitan Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. invited Doulas4CT to Amarante's Sea Cliff in New Haven, CT, for an evening of food, drinks, music, and fun as we raise awareness of cardiovascular diseases and what you and your loved ones can do to prevent most of them from affecting you or someone you love. During the event Doula Cynthia, eCID, CLC highlighted the impact of cardiovascular disease on pregnant women and how medical racism and implicit bias serve as barriers to women of color getting the care they need.

'Care Free Family Wellness Event'

"Everyone Deserves A Doula: Conversations on the History and Importance of Doulas and Birth Workers in the Black Community" was an open discussion to commemorate Black History Month and raise awareness of our fight to expand access to doula care. The Care Free Family Wellness Event addressed the historical significance and legacy of birth workers in the Black community, as well as the Black maternity mortality crisis and how expanding affordable and accessible doula care in Connecticut will promote positive maternal health outcomes for all.
